The undergraduate and postgraduate courses began in 1973, which gave the college a push towards Islamic sciences since 1977. A self- study of programs was conducted by the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies Qatar university which include:

  • Advocacy and Information Program.
  • Islamic Studies Program - Sharia.
  • Islamic Studies Program - Fundamentals of Religion

It ended with the conviction that it needs comprehensive substantive reviews, and the external arbitrators approved the conclusions of that study. After the internal dialogue, the college carried out a wide communications campaign with external stakeholders, which demonstrated the need for the state and society for a major role in which the college in Qatar contributes in preserving the identity of the community, its cultural unity, and its intellectual security, and the willingness of employers to employ college graduates if they meet the conditions of knowledge formation and appropriate vocational training.

Accordingly, the college developed a strategic plan with a vision and mission consistent with the plan of Qatar University and serving the Qatar National Vision 2030, and within its framework a number of academic programs were offered, including the following:

Bachelors of Islamic Studies

The purpose is to achieve the college’s vision by shaping the future media advocacy cadres to carry out the message of Islam which contributes to dialogues and cultural interaction. It in turn serves the Qatari society especially the Arab and humanitarian society.

Master's Program in Jurisprudence and Its Origins

Back in 2011, the program was designed by the committee taking into consideration the improvements and modifications to be made according to the bachelor’s degree at the university in Qatar.  7 compulsory courses, 3 elective courses and a thesis are a part of the program.

Students are trained to become professional researchers, with fundamental knowledge, mental and research skills and values in Islamic Jurisprudence and its foundations in a structured and stimulating educational environment.  Furthermore, students are taught active learning, the implementation of technology, connecting theoretical topics, practical applications and ability to critique a situation, effective communication, working in a team, conducting research and making decisions.  These are things that enable them to deal with all kinds of challenges that come their way in life.

Program Goals

Students are taught to link the old in the jurisprudential and fundamental heritage with the modern into order to deal with the Islamic legislation and put them to use when dealing with development and calamities.

PhD Program

Students are made to work on legal research in jurisprudence and its foundations to expand their knowledge with scientific studies and research that answers to the needs of the era.  The program teaches students the jurisprudential and legislative needs with the aim of revising the Islamic law and its authenticity, moderation and flexibility. Students can always get information or expand their knowledge with books found at the library in Qatar.
